APPARATUS REPORT

"Engine Company 4" has been very busy this past year!

In the year 2012 we plan on finishing all of the major projects scheduled for "Engine Company 4"  which includes finishing punch-list items for Utility-4, some intermediate projects on E-41,
and updating some systems on Squad-4.

At present, all apparatus is in the "up" status and all equip-ment is operational as well.  We have received a Hurst Rescue Tool for Squad-4 and as soon as it is thoroughly checked out and PMed, it will be installed on Squad-4.  Lighting upgrades will be done before spring.

All bills and repairs, so far, have been completed ahead of schedule and under budget!  All bills are paid in full!

ENGINE COMPANY 4   ACTIVITIES

Our newly-acquired Squad has received a new and improved lightbar that duplicates the original one install- ed in 1985, but has new lighting technology inside that re- sults in less current draw and better warning lighting.  The next steps will be to overhaul the rear lightbar with the same type of technology.

With our Utility Unit in service, fuel costs have gone down significantly due to  the smaller motor, plus we are getting better public exposure because we are using a marked vehicle.

At a recent company meeting it was decided to begin construction of an addition to quarters to house Squad 4.  This will result in a new gravel apron and an additional bay behind the present quarters.   Site clearing and preparation has already begun as of JAN 2012.

ENGINE COMPANY 4  EVENT REPORT

Our newest piece, Squad 4, attended its first major event on 24 SEPT 2011 and brought home a Special Award.  We are looking forward to more events with the new apparatus!  Our Utility Unit was used for a few courier runs recently and performed nicely.  Some PM is due on U-4 this winter.

E-41 made an appearance by invitation on 1 OCT at the Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club Vintage Car Show.

E-42 travelled to Phoebus, VA for the annual fire prevention and community parade on 8 OCT.  We had a full crew and the event and hospitality afterward were wonderful!

E-41 was on display at "Oktoberfest" in White Stone VA on 22 OCT.  It was also the featured vehicle on the dash plaque awarded to all attending vehicles!

        During December
"Engine Company 4" attended two
Christmas events. The first was in Kinsale, VA with
Squad
4 and the second was in Kilmarnock, VA where we dump-
ed the house and FILLED all 3 pieces!
E-41, E-42 and the
Squad all were in the parade to the delight of many!

FIRE PREVENTION MESSAGE!

A new year begins!   Thoughts now turn to new projects, vehicle maintenance, painting and construction to prepare for another year of service.

Pay close attention to using and storing compustible solvents, paints and rags.  Only use UL-approved safety cans and elctrical gear and cords.  It is important to set a proper ex-
ample for others as well as protecting ourselves and our assets.

Don't forget to properly dispose of haz-mats as well!

Be safe and hope to see you all at envents this year!
